Olympus CAMEDIA C-2040ZOOM
Hamburg, 21 November 2000 - While its makeover into a stunning titanium gold and black model is the first thing that will be noticed, closer inspection of the Olympus CAMEDIA C-2040ZOOM reveals far more than just a cosmetic transformation. This new introduction into the hugely successful C-2000ZOOM series incorporates all the terrific features of its predecessor, yet is set to impress further with additional functions and improved attributes to advance the photographic possibilities.
Utilising a primary colour filter, the 1/2 inch, 2.11 megapixel CCD at the heart of the C-2040ZOOM produces even more vivid results. This is matched with the great light gathering capabilities of a new, extremely fast, high-resolution F1.8-2.6 multivariator 3x zoom lens (equivalent to 40-120 mm on a conventional 35 mm camera). Fantastic photos for most situations are therefore assured. A freely adjustable digital zoom permits a further 2.5x magnification. (Or even up to 5x in VGA mode (640 x 480 pixels).)
iESP (intelligent Electro Selective Pattern) TTL autofocus and spot AF join the list of new inclusions, as do options for multi-centre-average and multi-spot light-metering, to give extra image precision. Automatic exposure (AE) values can now also be effortlessly locked-in at the touch of the camera's "OK" button.
The maximum exposure time in shutter priority mode has been lengthened to four seconds. This considerably expands the creative opportunities in low light.
Whether used to produce interesting effects or for ensuring pin-point colour accuracy, the C-2040ZOOM provides diverse white balance options. E.g.: It now features "one touch" control for quick, precise settings and even permits white balance compensation for taking into account delicate colour temperature nuances.
Although a powerful built-in flash is incorporated in this new model, there are times when an external unit, such as the CAMEDIA FL-40, may also be required. To make the connection easier and permit full control, Olympus has added a five pin external flash socket to the camera's comprehensive list of inclusions.
In addition, the integration of a storage class supported USB interface means that images can be downloaded for saving or editing without any fuss. Thanks to the new standard, the C-2040ZOOM is automatically recognised* as an external drive and is displayed on the screen in the computer's file directory.
Last but not least, a new image contrast selection option, CR-V3 battery compatibility and the possibility to rotate the images being shown on an external monitor, round out this exciting innovation from Olympus.
With more photographic creativity and enjoyment at hand, this model is sure to find many additional fans. The C-2040ZOOM presents itself as a worthy successor to the popular and awarded C-2000ZOOM series. It is expected to be released around December 2000.
